I really like this video from Cher Lloyd, as well its quirkiness its similar to the kind of effect we want to get from our use of polaroids at the beginning of the song which Cher has used in order to recreate scenes. We want a similar effect and want to achieve a quirky effect, similar to what has been achieved in this video. In our own video we hope to use polaroids in order to demonstrate the time Ruby and Ken have spent together, we will do this at the beginning of the video as a use of voyeurism.

London Filming

Yesterday we set out for filming in London. We went to many locations including Brixton, South Bank and Enbankment. We started our day in Brixton in which we aimed to get footage of some graffitti to use for cut away shots, but once we arrived we realised it was not the right location, deciding it was too edgy for our genre of music and video. We got some footage of lip syncing past edgy housing but are yet to decide whether to use it yet. A successful item we dound in Brixton was this abstract wall as the picture shows below, we loved the bright colours and quirkiness of it and are hoping to use it in our video.

Our next location was Enbankment in which we got some scenery shots of the Thames as well as doing lip syncing shots of Ruby and Ken with the Thames and London Bridge in back of shot. This went well, although the weather is quite cloudy and dark but we will edit this in post production by editing the colour to make it appear brighter.

Our last location was Enbankment in which we took mainly photos with Ruby and Ken posing with landmarks such as Big Ben and also a telephone box, making the London theme of our video clear. During filming we came up with the ideo of using photos as our use of voyeurism, at the beginning of our video having our artist looking through polaroid style photos of her and Ken, which represents the love story in the video.

Overall, we had a successful day of filming and are looking forward to editing our footage

Final Digipak

Here is my Digipak design for my artist. I have stuck to a bold colour scheme mainly consisting of red, black and blue which are all colours in a playing card. I chose to use a playing card theme throughout the design as it ties in with the artists name of 'Reigns' relating to the Queen of Hearts, also tieing in with the colour of ruby and the artists name. By using the image of lips in the digipak, this ties in with our music video due to the shot of the lip syncing just showing her mouth, using different coloured lipsticks.

FRONT
For the front cover of the digipak I chose a fun, playful image of Ruby looking cheerful, in order for her fans to see her happy personality. I also chose the image due to the colours of blue, green and red which are bright colours we want to associate our artist with as they are bright and cheerful colours. I decided on the album name of Radio Sings Red as it ties in with the alliteration of Ruby Reigns and also as Red is a shade of ruby, and also radio relating to music. The title also indicates how Ruby controls/reigns the radio as it is always playing her music. When designing the logo I chose to use handwriting style font by using Dafont.com, as I wanted it to appear as if Ruby had handwritten it, to make the album look more personal. I alos chose to draw a crown using photoshop on the logo in order to relate to her name of Reigns and the Queen of Hearts royalty theme.

BACK

For the back of my digipak I chose to use a notepad style in order to fit in with the young and playful theme of the video. I used scrabble pieces and lipstick in order to tie in with their use in their video, and used the handwritten font in order to appear as if Ruby had written it. I also used the notepad in order to appear as a diary style, in which the songs were Ruby's secrets and memoirs. In regards to the colour scheme I stuck with black, red and white in order to give Ruby a clear brand and to make the digipak consistent. On the back I created my own barcode using Paint and added copyright details which would be found on other albums, this illustrates it as a legitimate digipak.

INSIDE 1

For one part of the inside for the digipak, I chose the image of Ruby sitting on a brick wall looking to the side. I chose this image as it represents the two sides to Ruby, the fun side (front) and the thoughtful side (inside), this shows the different personalities of Ruby and this is represented in her music due to the mix of fun songs mixed with more meaningful slow songs. Also, this image can be interpreted by her fans as they will understand the different sides to her as an artist. I also used this image due to the colours of blue and the rust orange, I liked this combination and thought they were eye catching, as well as the brick theme tieing in with our video of the scrabble pieces on the brick pattern.

INSIDE 2

I decided to use this image for the CD disk as it is bright and eye grabbing and stands out from other simpler discs that are often used by artists. As well as tieing in with the lips and playing card theme, this indicates Ruby's strong side due to the bold image. Also when you take the disc out of its holder the CD owner has a part of Rubys image that they can fit back into place like a puzzle, which fits in with the playful theme of the digipak as well as the video.

Overall, I feel this digipak is a good representation of Ruby as an artist, as well as fitting in with the theme of our music video, including the lips, bricks and scrabble pieces as well as the name of Ruby Reigns.

Digipak Ideas

Here are some images I am considering using for my Digipak. I have edited the brightness in order to make the colours from the graffiti pop out to appear brighter and edgier. As these are basic drafts I'm considering using an image of a crown somewhere on the image, perhaps with the logo or above my head, in order to tie in with the name of Ruby reigns.

The tracklist on the brick wall is not a solid idea, but I liked the concept of the songs being on there as it ties in with one of our scrabble piece shots. I may edit the image to make it brighter and maybe place the songs in a more spaced out order to make it bolder.

Filming at Alexandra Palace

Today we did our skatepark and London landscape filming at Ali Pali, we started off with lipsyncing in the skatepark but unfortunately did not get all the graffitti shots we wanted due to it being shut because of icy conditions but we got good shots of Ruby sitting on steps and skateboard ramps which set the edgy and vibrant scene. Due to Ali Pali having a boating lake we got a few shots of Ruby and Ken feeding the ducks which we will use in the reminiscing scene in which she remembers all the good times with him. We also went to the balcony area of the main building at Ali Pali and got some effective scenery shots of Londons landscape and also shots through the telescope which we are looking forward to editing. Overall today was a very successful day of filming and despite freezing cold temperatures we managed to get alot done which we are happy with.

Friday, 13 January 2012

In todays lesson we came up with our tracklist for our digipak album. We did this by researching artists from our indie pop genre such as Lily Allen and Kate Nash and drew inspiration from their use of random and ironic names. As a result we thought of quite fun and playful names to fit in with our genre and to make sure the artist is understood to be quirky and individual. We also wanted our song names to relate to the city based theme of our video with songs such as 'London Boots' but also relate to love and relationships, as featured in our video, for example 'Kiss Me' as well as add to the playful feel of the video with songs such as 'Roundabout' and 'Fingerprints'.

1. Love Days
2. 1, 2 ,3
3. Skinny Genes
4. My Best Friend
5. Fingerprints
6. London Boots
7. Kiss Me
8. In My Arms
9. Leaving You
10. Roundabout

Digipak photos

In todays lesson we began to take photos to use for our Digipak designs. We took a mixture of shots including one outside with scenery including a brick wall, rose bush and then we also took shots with a blank white canvas in order for us to edit and add our own animation. For example an idea I had was to draw a crown above my head using a programme on the computer which illustrates my creativity as well as making it original, also fitting in with the artists name of Reigns. We will also be taking other shots further on in the week in order to get a variety in order for me to have a selection to choose from to use for my Digipak.

The idea of a crown symbolises her power and independency, as well as fitting in with the name of 'reigns'. I've looked at images of crowns and found a few images I think will look effective, and also experimented for my logo.

Logo/Digipak Research

In todays's lesson we started to think about what logo we would like for our artist, as since we have been researching and designing for our own digipak we will need this logo for our designs. We decided we want a handwriting type style in order to make the album look personal as if the artist has hand written it. We experimented with styles on dafont.com and found these two which we are keen to use, we may either create this on the computer or actually hand write it in order to be creative and look effective.
